Any effect that allows you to destroy a permanent can destroy a battle, since theyre also permanents that can be targeted

Its a game that has a ton of depth

If a card with discard is put into your graveyard and you have priority, your opponents wont have a chance to remove that card from your graveyard before you can cast it (assuming no timing restrictions, of course)
